How should you react if your home is burgled?

If your home has been burgled, try to stay calm and follow the guidelines below:

  • If you find your home has been broken into, do not go in and immediately call the emergency telephone number (112).
  • If you discover a burglary, do not touch anything and do an inventory of what is missing as soon as possible, including an approximate valuation of the stolen objects.
  • Report it to the law enforcement authorities.
  • Inform your insurance company.
  • If you were robbed, remember:
  • Your life is more valuable than any material object.
  • It will be very useful to remember all you can about the robber.
  • Call your insurance company as soon as possible.
  • Important: we need pictures from before and after the reparation.

What documents should be submitted in the event of burglary or theft in your house?

After reporting the burglary, the company will ask you to provide:

If it is a burglary of home contents:

  • A letter detailing the circumstances in which the burglary occurred.
  • An approximate economic estimate of the objects stolen.
  • The report filed with the appropriate authorities.

If it is only damages from the attempted burglary that have not been repaired:

  • Details of the circumstances in which the burglary occurred.
  • An approximate economic estimate of what has been stolen.
  • The report filed with the appropriate authorities.
  • Whether you require a repairer.

If it is damages from the attempted burglary that you have already repaired:

  • A letter detailing the circumstances in which the burglary occurred.
  • The repair bill with the details of the work carried out, duly legalised.
  • The report filed with the appropriate authorities.

In the case of a robbery, we will ask you to submit the following:

  • The report processed by the appropriate authorities.
  • The detail and approximate valuation of the stolen goods.
  • If any electronic devices were stolen (phone, computer, iPad etc.), the value of which exceeds €500, you will need to provide documentary proof of its prior existence.
